What is a money line in sports betting?
when people bet the money line are they betting just the outcome with no odds having to be met? For example say if it was between the lakers and the heat.
Lakers -10
Heat +10
What if i bet the money line instead of the spread line. Would the lakers just have to win in order for me to win? What kind of bet is that called when you just bet on the winner with no spread line involved?

You are absolutely correct! It is also called ‘straight up’. Of course if you’re betting on the favorite, your payout will be a lot lesser. If you are betting on an upset though, and it hits, you will win a great deal more than with the spread. ur right its a stright bet thats what the money line means betting the team with out points if u bet the spread that is the point spread

You are basically correct there is no point spread when you bet the money line. You won’t find any organized betting were you can bet on the winner with no point spread or money line. The purpose of the spread or money line is to even out the betting so that approximately the same amount of money is bet on each team so that the house doesn’t go broke. Without the odds everyone would bet on the favorite and because the favorite wins more often than not the sportsbook would quickly go out business.
